RadioOnFire.com - Serena Williams took to social media on Monday [April 24] to air out retired Tennis firebrand Ilie Nastase over a racially insensitive quip he made in public, after learning of her 5 month pregnancy with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian last week.
Following Williams' announcement that she is expecting and due to deliver in the Fall, the 1970's Romanian star posted: “Let's see what color it has... Chocolate with milk?" Williams fired back via Instagram, writing, "It disappoints me to know we live in a society where people like Ilie Nastase can make such racist comments towards myself and my unborn child." She has pledged her support for the International Tennis Federation to investigate the matter, as it would have grounds to weigh a penalty on Nastase, who is currently the Romanian Fed Cup captain.
In venting on her disgust over the remark, Williams wasn't done. She followed up her own words by quoting poet Maya Angelou. “Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? You may shoot me with your words... you may try to kill me with your hatefulness, but still like air, I rise,” she wrote, quoting from Angelou's classic piece, "Still I Rise."
