RadioOnFire.com - Hundreds gathered Saturday in Annapolis to call on Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to speak out against President Donald Trump's administration.
CASA, a Latino and immigration advocacy group, held a rally on Lawyer's Mall outside of the State House and the Governor’s residence.
So far, the governor hasn't given his opinion on the president's travel ban or immigration agenda.
Last Sunday, Hogan's office issued a statement noting that lawyers were reviewing the President’s order and its implication for Maryland. The statement added immigration was the purview of the federal government.
During the State of the State address on Wednesday, Hogan didn't mention the Trump administration's new policies.
Hogan did not support Mr. Trump in the election, but he hasn't taken a stance on the president's executive orders and cabinet appointments.
Some Marylanders said it's time for Hogan to break his silence.
"Marylanders do not agree with the ban. Marylanders do not agree with destroying the Affordable Care Act. Marylanders want to protect immigrants and refugees, and so we really want our governor to stand up to this Republican president, to stand up to Donald Trump, and that's why we're here today," said Kyle Lierman, who attended the rally.
Democratic state leaders are proposing five bills that they said will help protect Maryland from some of the president's policies. Supporters said the legislation will force the governor to take a stance on the issues.
Earlier this week, Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, who is considering challenging Hogan in next year's election, launched an online petition to demand Hogan denounce Trump's policies.
