Mass. Sheriff Proposes to Have Prisoners Build Trump's Border Wall

RadioOnFire.com - Should President Donald Trump wish to cut down on the cost tax payers would be looking at, to fund the building of a wall along the Mexican border, he may have found it through an initiative forwarded by a Massachusetts sheriff. Project NICE (National Inmates' Community Endeavors) is a concept created by Bristol County Sheriff and long time Obama critic Thomas Hodgson, who has proposed that he can promise free labor for the border wall's construction, by ordering prisoners to do the work.

"I can think of no other project that would have such a positive impact on our inmates and our country than building this wall," Sheriff Hodgson said after being sworn into his fourth six-year term in office, last week. Critics of the proposal liken the idea to slavery and point out that it would run contrary to Trump's argument that the wall's construction would result in thousands of jobs. But Hodgson insists he sees no better way for convicts to redeem themselves. "Aside from learning and perfecting construction skills, the symbolism of these inmates building a wall to prevent crime in communities across the country, and to preserve jobs and work opportunities for them and other Americans upon release, can be very powerful," he said.

Trump kept true to the word he gave his base throughout his campaign for office, by signing an executive order to build the border wall only days into office. He has received heavy criticism from opponents of the idea, however, who say that it would cause a series of hostilities with Mexico while compromising the ideals America defines itself on as they pertain to immigration and open borders. Many of the President's allies continue to question whether it will be worth it to expend the time and resources to such a lofty construction, estimating that it could cost up to $15 billion.

Trump has long maintained that Mexico will pay for it, and recently hinted that he might impose an import tax on our southern neighbor to refund tax payers the amount they will come out of pocket with. Opponents say that such a measure would only provoke Mexican companies to increase their prices, thereby putting the cost back to U.S. consumers.
