Canadian Mint Worker Sentenced for Smuggling $130K in Gold in His Butt

RadioOnFire.com - Leston Lawrence, 35, was sentenced to 30 months for stealing $127,116 of gold in 22 pieces. Investigators say they found latex and Vaseline in Lawrence's locker, and say they "could have been used to facilitate insertion of gold items inside his rectum."

Lawrence, who sold 17 pieces for up to $7,300 apiece between 2014 and 2015, used the money to buy a boat in Florida and to build a house in Jamaica. He was charged with convicted of conveying gold out of the mint, breach of trust by a public official and possession of property obtained by crime. In addition to the 30-month sentence, Lawrence was ordered to pay a $145,900 fine.
