Rawlings-Blake Reflects Days Before Leaving Office

RadioOnFire.com - As she prepares to leave office next week, after nearly seven years in office, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake says she has no regrets about her time in office. At her final weekly news conference as mayor, Rawlings-Blake attempted sarcasm when asked about her biggest regret as mayor.
“I think biggest regret was establishing the…press conference,” Rawlings-Blake said, in a line that received some laughter in the room.
Rawlings-Blake said she is not thinking about what she might have done differently as mayor, including her leadership of the city during last year’s riots, when some people, including Gov. Larry Hogan criticized the mayor.
“I think some people are obsessed with this would have, could have should have, but that’s not how I live,” Rawlings-Blake said. “I really don’t concern myself with what people’s opinion is.”
Before the news conference, Rawlings-Blake attended her final meeting of the city’s Board of Estimates.
She was praised by City Council President Jack Young, who chairs the spending panel, who noted that while the two may have disagreed on some issues, he noted the mayor’s dedication to the city.
Rawlings-Blake took office in February 2010, after Mayor Sheila Dixon resigned as part of a plea agreement at her theft and perjury trial.
One day later, a blizzard fell over Baltimore. It would be the first to two massive snowstorms of her tenure, as she was also leading the city during January’s storm.
The mayor says she will not miss working nearly around the clock to coordinate snow removal response.
“I can’t wait until it snows.  I’m going to ride by the snow room in my pajamas with my music blasting,” Rawlings-Blake said.
During the news conference, Rawlings-Blake would not detail what her plans would be after leaving office on Tuesday, though she has said she would like to remain secretary of the Democratic National Committee.
Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will leave office on Tuesday, after State Sen. Catherine Pugh is sworn in as the city’s 50th mayor.
