Suspect in Lor Scoota Murder Is Fatally Shot

BALTIMORE —City police said a victim in a fatal shooting Monday was a person of interest in popular Baltimore rapper Lor Scoota's murder.

Officers were called at 4:45 p.m. Monday to the intersection of Baltimore and Monroe streets where they found a man inside a car with gunshot wounds. The man was taken to the hospital, where he died. Police identified him Tuesday as Cortez Mitchell.

Police said Mitchell, 22, was one of four people police were looking into in connection with Scoota's death. Police said another person of interest, Avery Walton, 23, was arrested on June 28 after he was found in possession of weapon used to kill Scoota. Walton was not charged in Scoota's death.

Mitchell's shooting was a result of retaliatory violence, police said.

Scoota, who was also known as Tyriece Watson, was killed June 25. He was 23. Scoota's manager, Trayvon Lee, 24, was killed nearly two weeks later.
