RadioOnFire.com -The official count of Baltimore's primary votes is complete. What kind of news does it bear for Sheila Dixon?
Armistead Jones, the director of Baltimore's board of elections, has no idea.
"Personally, I haven't looked at any numbers," he told reporters Friday.
The gap between Dixon and the original declared victor of the Democratic mayoral primary, state Sen. Catherine Pugh, was narrowed by about 500 votes after more than 3,000 provisional ballots were counted on Wednesday. In Baltimore, where registered Democrats vastly outnumber Republicans, the Democratic primary winner typically proceeds to win the general election.
Once the results are officially certified, the runner-up will have three days to request a recount, but that certification may not come until Monday.
Jones said he has "no reservations" about the work his office has done in counting the ballots and said he has not been in contact with state elections officials about any complaints of irregularities.
"The value is that citizens have cast their ballots and they have an opportunity for them to count," he said.
