Mom Who Falsely Reported That Son Was Taken With Car: Charged And Identified

UPDATE: On November 6, 2015, at  10:30 a.m., officers from the Western District responded to the 1300 block of Harlem Avenue for a report of a stolen car with a child inside of it. When officers arrived, they met a female who advised she had run into a home in the area and left her car running with her two-year-old son in the backseat. She said that she observed a male getting into the vehicle and fleeing the scene. Officers immediately began an extensive search in the area. The information was relayed the Media Relations Section and distributed to the media and to social media. Officers were in contact with the Maryland State Police preparing an Amber Alert. The Baltimore County Police sent their aviation unit to assist in the search for the vehicle. Investigators questioned the mother and other witnesses and were able to determine that the child was actually safe at the child’s day care center. It was determined that the mother did in fact leave her vehicle running and unlocked and it was stolen, but the child was never in the vehicle nor in harm’s way. Numerous officers from around the city were dedicated to this search for nearly two hours. Fortunately, the child was unharmed. The mother has been identified as Brittany Berkley 22, of the 400 block of Mosher Street. She has been charged with false statement.
