19 Year Old Man Federally Indicted in April Riots



A 19-year-old Baltimore man was indicted Thursday on federal charges stemming from the April riots. 

Donta Betts was indicted with attempted arson of a police cruiser, obstructing law enforcement officers during a civil disorder and unlawful making of a destructive device, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

"These violent acts endangered the safety of dozens of officers and citizens in the area that day," ATF Baltimore Special Agent in Charge William P. McMullan said. "ATF is committed to making sure that the perpetrators of these acts are held responsible and we will continue to investigate anyone who threatens the well-being of our community." 

Betts, who remains in police custody, pleaded not guilty in federal court Friday. He remains in police custody. 

He could face a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison for attempted arson, a maximum of five years in prison for obstruction, and a maximum of 10 years in prison for the unlawful making of a destructive device.
