Reverend Jamal Bryant announced to his congregation at the Empowerment Temple Church Tuesday night that he would not run for U.S. Congress. Just last week he said that he would run to represent the 7th District... A seat held by Elijah Cummings since 1996.
Reverend Bryant said Tuesday that he hoped that Congressman Cummings would run for the Senate seat that will be vacated by Senator Barbara Mikulski. He said he spoke to his mentor, Cummings, who told him that he will not be seeking the Senate seat and will run again for his current seat. That statement has not been confirmed by Congressman Cummings.
The 7th district represents parts of Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County.
