Donta Allen captured headlines as the man who shared a ride with Freddie Gray the day Gray's spine was severed in the back of a Baltimore police van.
Now, 23-year-old Allen is making news again. He's in trouble with the law in York County, Pa.
Authorities there accuse him of forging a signature on a counterfeit check and cashing the check at a bank for $875.
In various interviews, Allen provided memorable descriptions of a "little banging" he claims he heard inside the van on the other side of the metal partition that separated him and Gray.
He denied telling police he thought Gray had tried to intentionally hurt himself.
Allen is being held in Baltimore awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.
