Amazon is opening its new fulfillment center in Baltimore
A ceremony was held Tuesday morning at the 1 million square-foot fulfillment center on Broening Highway.
The Baltimore Sun reported this summer that more than 2,500 people had been hired for full-time positions at the center. When plans for the center were announced in 2013, Amazon said it would employ about 1,000 people who would fill orders for across the Mid-Atlantic region.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake planned to attend the opening along with Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger and Business and Economic Development Secretary Mike Gill.
