ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Gov. Larry Hogan has announced plans to offer many state workers a half-day off work this summer to volunteer for community service projects.
The governor’s office announced Monday that employees at state agencies can choose to take four hours of paid leave to help Maryland charities as part of Hogan’s “Maryland Unites: Day of Service” initiative.
Hogan says in a statement that the initiative was inspired by the outpouring of kindness he witnessed in the wake of the recent Baltimore riots.
They have designated six service days between June 17 and Aug. 26 when eligible employees can sign up for agency-sponsored events or volunteer to work with charities they choose.
The governor’s office says the charity work must be related to restoring Baltimore and other communities.
