Former Western High School Principal Pleads Guilty To Stealing More Than $50K In Student Funds

RadioOnFire.com - A former Baltimore principal has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $50,000 from Western High School's student activity fund to make personal purchases.

Maryland State Prosecutor Emmet Davitt announced Tuesday that former principal Alisha Trusty has pleaded guilty Monday to felony theft. City school officials referred the matter to the Davitt's office after auditors found irregularities. Sentencing is set for Oct. 6.

According to a statement of facts, from 2011 to 2014 Trusty used the fund's debit card and checks to pay bills, buy personal items and spent more than $2,800 on 19 nights at New Jersey hotel while on medical leave. Authorities say that the 38-year-old Trusty earned a second salary from an educational institution while on paid leave.

Trusty now lives in Texas. Her attorney declined to comment.
