Violent Police Chase Ends in Crash On I-95 in VA

RadioOnFire.com - Miles of traffic along Interstate 95 was at a standstill for nearly five hours after a police chase in Stafford County, VA came to an end with a man suspected of shooting his wife crashing, and then turning the gun on himself late Thursday morning, December 28.

Stafford County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call about the shooting of a woman at a Fredericksburg apartment complex around 11:24 a.m. They arrived to find the suspect fled the scene, but was able to locate him on the interstate soon afterward.

Early on in the chase, the suspect got out of the black Ford Explorer he was driving and exchanged fire with officers. The shooting caused a trooper who slammed his brakes to be rear-ended by a driver behind him.

The northbound chase would finally come to an end around noontime, when the suspect's SUV sideswiped another vehicle, crashed into a guardrail, then flipped over. When police got to his truck they found the suspect with a self-inflicted wound in his head. He remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries at Fairfax Inova Hospital.

All northbound lanes along the interstate were opened back up as of 4:45 p.m.

Trump Tweets That East Coast's Weather Disproves Global Warming

RadioOnFire.com - President Donald Trump has made headlines again, this time by denying climate change with a tweet from his Mar-a-Lago abode on Thursday. Harkening back to Sen. Jim Inhofe's of Oklahoma throwing a snowball onto the Senate floor in mid-debate, the president tweeted the following:

“In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against,” he wrote. “Bundle up!”

The National Weather Service called for highs of 22 and lows of 10 degrees in New York on the day of the tweet. These pale in comparison to records for New York City. 100 years ago, in 1917 New York reached its record low of 1 degree while in 1962 the thermostat rose only to 11 degrees.

This position from the president, who is a long time denier, has now aligned the country's policy toward climate change along similar lines. In June of this year, he said he would withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Accord where 195 countries agreed to reduce carbon emissions at the United Nations Climate Change Conference. Trump's tweet along with Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt's position has elicited a tweet in response from the UN quoting Secretary General António Guterres, "Climate change is undeniable. Climate action is unstoppable."

Solange Cancels A Festival Set After Revealing Health Struggles

RadioOnFire.com - After recently directing a stunning music video for SZA, Solange was set to cap off the year with a New Year’s Eve performance at Johannesburg’s Afropunk Festival. But on Wednesday (December 27), the singer announced that she’s had to cancel her headlining set because of some recent health struggles.

Opening up to fans on Instagram, Solange revealed that she’s been quietly battling an autonomic disorder. According to NYU Langone, people with these nervous system disorders may have trouble regulating the function of the body’s internal organs, which can create issues with blood pressure, body temperature, and cognitive impairment.

“The past five months I have been quietly treating and working through an Autonomic Disorder,” Solange wrote. “It’s been a journey that hasn’t been easy on me. Sometimes I feel cool, and other times not so cool at all.”

The 31-year-old singer explained that her doctors didn’t clear her to travel to the festival in South Africa, but she assured fans that she’ll return to perform for them at a later date.

“I can’t put into words how saddened and sorry I am that I am unable to perform for you guys this NYE,” she wrote. “There is simply no other place I wanted to be than there with my family to bring in 2018 with you.”

She continued, “As a part of the self care that I’ve tried to encourage this past year, it needs to start with myself, and I’m looking forward to doing a better job of this [in] 2018. Performing this record and experiencing the energy exchange with you guys has been astounding, and I’m so excited about continuing to do the work I feel so absolutely humbled and appreciative to be doing next year.”

Here’s hoping Solange feels better and returns to the stage soon.

Woman Sentenced to Three Years in Egypt for Smuggling Painkillers

RadioOnFire.com - A British woman, Laura Plummer has been sentenced to three years in prison for smuggling painkillers into Egypt. In October, Plummer was arrested after being found with 290 tramadol pills in her suitcase. Plummer claims she didn't know the drugs were illegal and she was only trying to help her boyfriend.

Tramadol, a potent synthetic opioid, can only be prescribed by medical professionals in Egypt. However, it is often obtained illegally and is said to be the country’s most abused drug.

Her sister, Rachel Plummer, told the Guardian: “Three years. I can’t believe it. We are devastated. We had all the evidence showing her innocence.”

Plummer’s family said her partner, Omar Caboo, had previously shown medical records that they said proved he had long-term back problems requiring pain medication.

Her lawyer, Mohamed Othman, reportedly said a plane ticket showing she paid twice as much for her flights as the drugs were worth is proof that she was not planning to sell them. “For someone to be found guilty of drug smuggling they have to be aware that they are possessing narcotics.

Laura did not know that what she was carrying was a narcotic,” he said, The Sun reports. Her mother said Plummer’s been “living in hell,” sharing a jail cell with no beds with up to 25 other women, adding her daughter now looks “unrecognizable.”

NFL Cancels Last 'Sunday Night Football' Game of the Season

RadioOnFire.com - In a decision reached only one week ahead of the scheduled New Year's Eve nightcap, the NFL has announced that it will be scrapping the season's final Sunday Night Football game that was set to air on NBC at 8:30 pm on December 31.

“We felt that both from a competitive standpoint and from a fan perspective, the most fair thing to do is to schedule all Week 17 games in either the 1 pm or 4:25 pm windows,” NFL media-rights negotiator and broadcasting head Howard Katz has said about the move.

In essence, all Week 17 action will air via CBS and Fox, with seven games taking place during the 1 pm slot and the remaining games going down at 4:25 pm. There has been no word on how NBC will fill in the now-vacant spot, or whether the league has worked out a deal to compensate the network for its removal of the game.

It will be the first time in 40 years (1977) that the NFL regular season will not culminate with a primetime broadcast. Many suspect that with the league experiencing a 9% rating dip this season, the front office wanted to avoid an epic television failure.

Taking history into consideration, a broadcast taking place only hours before the ball drops in Times Square likely wouldn't fair well. The last time there was an NBC Sunday Night Football game on New Year's Eve was in 2006 when the Bears battled the Packers in what was thought at the time to be Brett Favre's final game. That game registered about a quarter fewer viewers than had been the average that season, with only 13.4 million tuning in.

Apple May Be Worth $1 Trillion in 2018?

RadioOnFire.com - Apple is predicted to be worth $1 trillion next year, according to recent reports. It's not unbelievable considering the fact that it's flirted past the $900 billion mark in the last month or so. But the company did take a beating in the markets yesterday after a report claimed Apple slashed its orders for iPhone X after weaker than expected demand. The company forecast about 30 million sales of its latest iPhone, down from a planned 50 million units for the holiday quarter.

Regardless of recent speed bumps, this company is a unstoppable powerhouse.

Floyd Mayweather Denies Reports That He's in Talks with the UFC

RadioOnFire.com - UFC President Dana White recently claimed that Mayweather fighting in the UFC was a possibility. Since then, Mayweather addressed the claims, saying that is a no-go.

Via FightHype.com, Mayweather clarified his statements, saying “What I said was this: I made a billion dollars. If I made a billion dollars before, I’ll do it again. If I choose to get in the UFC and fight for the UFC, or fight three fights or four fights and then fight Conor McGregor, I could make a billion dollars, which I can. I could do it in three fights or even four fights. I could make a billion dollars.”

Mayweather noted his thought about fighting in the UFC was a hypothetical one, saying “If I choose to get in the octagon and fight – fight three fights, three or four fights, and then fight Conor McGregor in the octagon. We just don’t know what the future holds for Floyd Mayweather, and I don’t look forward to getting back in the boxing ring. That’s what I don’t look forward to doing.”

He continued on, saying “So, I’m just saying, I could (make a billion in the UFC). I’m not doing it. But I’m saying, what I could do is make a billion dollars quick if I wanted to do that. That’s what I was saying.” Listen above.
