Ohio State: Suspect killed, 10 Injured After Campus Attack

RadioOnFire.com  - CNN reports the suspect in the Ohio State University attack ran into a group of pedestrians on a street corner with his vehicle before using a weapon to cut several people, OSU President Dr. Michael Drake said. The assailant used a butcher knife, OSU Police Chief Craig Stone said.

Ten people were hospitalized after an attack Monday at Ohio State University, Columbus Fire spokeswoman Rebecca Diehm said. Nine are in stable condition, and one is in critical condition, she said.

The university released a statement after the attack.
"A suspect has been shot and reported deceased," the university said. "Victim injuries include stab wounds, injury by motor vehicle and other injuries that are being evaluated."

Using A Lighter To See Under Couch, Woman Sets Home Ablaze

EARLEVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Fire officials in Maryland say a mobile home was destroyed after the owner accidentally set her couch on fire while attempting to see under it with a lighter.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal said in a statement the fire happened Friday around 1 p.m. at the home on Kent Road in Earleville. The office said that the $20,000 mobile home and its contents are a complete loss.

Officials say it took 30 firefighters about 15 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Person Of Interest In Baltimore Shooting Taken Into Custody

RadioOnFire.com - Baltimore police have a person of interest in custody relating to a shooting early Sunday morning in the unit block of East Cross Street.

Police say the suspect, a 24-year-old man from Annapolis, shot one adult male in the foot while another suffered from a graze wound. Both victims were transported to area hospitals.

According to police, an altercation broke out involving several people. During the dispute, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired at the people he was arguing with. However, two unintended victims in the block were shot.

The suspect was taken into custody after witnesses helped identify the man. A handgun was recovered.  

Detectives from the Citywide Shooting Unit are continuing to investigate this incident. Any witnesses are asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7Lockup.

Officer Tries To Save Baby Girl Who Stops Breathing At Restaurant

RadioOnFire.com - Despite life-saving efforts by a Baltimore police officer, an infant who had stopped breathing inside a restaurant died at a hospital Saturday, police said.

Witnesses said the infant's mother was one of around 30 people who had gathered outside the restaurant to protest a police-involved shooting that happened a day earlier.

The group had assembled near Greenmount Avenue to demonstrate against the shooting. The man police shot was armed with two knives at the time, police said.

An officer patrolling the area during Saturday's protest was approached by a group of people who informed him that a baby girl was not breathing inside the restaurant.

The officer rushed inside and began to perform CPR until paramedics arrived.

The 1-month-old infant was taken to a hospital where she later died.

It is unknown if any pre-existing medical conditions contributed to the infant's death.

Police said the officers who attempted to help the infant will be provided with counseling services.

10 Shot, Including One Fatally, In New Orleans' French Quarter: Police

(NEW ORLEANS) -- Two arrests have been made in connection with the shooting of 10 people -- including one who died -- in New Orleans' French Quarter early Sunday morning, police said.

"A total of 10 victims were shot in the incident on Bourbon Street. One victim has died from his injuries," tweeted the New Orleans Police Department of the incident, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Bourbon Street.

Police said it is unclear what precipitated the incident.

The 10 victims are between the ages of 20 and 37; eight are male and two are female, said New Orleans Police Department Supt. Michael Harrison.

The fatality is one of the male victims, who died at a hospital.

Supt. Harrison said two males were arrested at the scene on firearms charges. One of those arrested was a victim, while the other individual may or may not have been connected to the shooting incident.

He said that officers responded to the scene after hearing shots. "This is not something that should've happened," Harrison said, adding that there were "thirty or more [police officers] in the block" as shots rang out.

There was an increased police presence because the Bayou Classic -- an annual college football game between the Grambling State University Tigers and the Southern University Jaguars -- took place Saturday at the Mercedes Benz Superdome about two miles from where the shooting took place.

New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu tweeted, "Tonight's shooting was unacceptable. Police and EMS were on scene and responded fast. We will pursue this investigation aggressively."

Hillary Clinton's Campaign to Push for Vote Recount in Key States

RadioOnFire.com - Hillary Clinton's campaign is reporting that it will push for recounts in several key states Clinton lost.  The push for recounts started with Green Party candidate Jill Stein, who has been calling for a recount in Wisconsin.

According to Marc Elias, the Clinton campaign's counsel, the campaign's own investigation has found no evidence that would indicate the count had been manipulated.  But as Jill Stein continues to investigate voting systems, the Clinton campaign has gone on record to say that it will participate in the effort to "ensure that it is fair to all sides."

Donald Trump's margin of victory in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania is only about 107,000 votes.

Arbutus Man Suspected In Home Invasions Surrendered To Baltimore County Police

RadioOnFire.com - Justin Montgomery, the Arbutus man suspected in two home invasions, has surrendered himself to Baltimore County police.

Montgomery will be served with two warrants, one from Baltimore County and another from Baltimore City.

The county warrant charges him with first-degree assault, a handgun violation and related charges. 

The investigation began in Baltimore City around noon on Friday. City police said a 67-year-old woman on Coolidge Avenue reported being robbed and assaulted by a man who stole a handgun and money. The woman identified the man as a 29-year-old acquaintance that she knew.

About 15 minutes later, city police said a 74-year-old man on Clarenell Road reported that a man with a gun forced his way into his house and stole his car. The victim identified the assailant as the same man from the robbery on Coolidge Avenue.

City police said investigators received information that the assailant was at a residence in Baltimore County. City police contacted county police with to share the information.

Baltimore County police were called just before 1 p.m. to Kendale Apartments in the 1000 block of Maiden Choice Lane in Arbutus for reports of a barricaded man who might have some sort of weapon.

Officers entered the apartment unit just after 6:30 p.m. and found it was empty.

County police said Montgomery did return home to the apartment. They said he pointed a gun at someone and told them to leave before he himself left the apartment.

Unarmed Chicago Teen Kajuan Raye Fatally Shot by Police

RadioOnFire.com - A Chicago police sergeant shot and killed 19-year-old Kajuan Raye after believing Raye "matched the description" of a battery suspect and had allegedly pointed a weapon at the sergeant. Chicago police, however, did not recover the alleged gun.

Late Wednesday night, Kajuan Raye was fatally wounded by a Chicago Police Department (CPD) sergeant, whose name has not been released to the public, in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. The sergeant had responded to a call about a battery in progress when the sergeant found a man that "matched the description of the offender," CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Thursday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The sergeant approached the man, but the man ran away, police said. The sergeant chased the man, who at some point "turned and pointed" a weapon at the sergeant, Johnson said.

Texas Judge Apologizes for Suggesting Black Suspect be Hanged

RadioOnFire.com - A Texas judge recently apologized for a since-deleted Facebook comment he made in reference to a black suspect which suggested the suspect be hung and evoked imagery associated with lynchings.

This past Monday, Burnet County Judge James Oakley wrote, "Time for a tree and a rope..." in response to the arrest of Otis Tyrone McKane, who is suspected for the murder of a San Antonio police officer. By Wednesday, Oakley had issued an apology.

"It is for that reason that I deleted it soon after posting and apologize for not being more thoughtful and comprehensive in my expression," Oakley said. "What I should have posted, if anything, is a comment that more clearly reflects my opinion on the cowardly crime of the senseless murder of a law enforcement officer."

Oakley went on to clarify that the comment had nothing to do with the suspect's race. "To be clear, I advocate due process. I also support the death penalty in cases where the ultimate crime has been committed," he said. But considering the well-documented history of lynchings in the south, it seems far-fetched to imagine that his comment had nothing to do with race.

RadioOnFire.com - Two weeks after jury selection was postponed while the federal judge presiding over Dylann Roof's impending mass murder trial assessed documentation on the defendant's mental health, Roof was determined competent to stand trial on Friday, November 25.

U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel is documented as having granted the defense's motion to look into its claim that Roof might not presently have the mental capacity to assist them in presenting a fair case on his behalf, leading to his halting of the pre-trial process on November 7. Gergel had followed up on his decision by holding a closed-door hearing consisting of only lawyers, prosecutors, court officials, witnesses and Roof himself. Judge Gergel is reported to have heard the testimony of psychologist James Ballenger, and reviewed statements made before him and in writing from up to seven unnamed witnesses; all of which was taken into consideration when making the call.

Jury selection for the January 2017 trial is set to resume on Monday. Roof faces the death penalty if the federal court convicts him on the hate crime, obstruction of religion and other charges made against him in connection with the June 2015 attack that claimed the lives of 9 parishioners at Charleston's Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He also faces the death penalty over nine counts of murder in a state court trial for which he has already been deemed competent to stand.

Shopper Shoots and Kills 1 Person Over a Walmart Parking Spot

RadioOnFire.com - The victim of a shooting believed to have resulted from a dispute over a parking spot was pronounced dead Thursday evening [November 24], and police in Reno Nevada are searching for his killer.

The Thanksgiving Day incident took place outside of the 2nd Street Walmart, which had been set to leave it's doors open through closing hours, for the benefit of Black Friday shoppers. Reportedly, shots were fired at around 6:05 p.m., claiming the life of a 33-year-old male. Police say that both men were armed. While they have yet declared a motive, Reno police Lt. Scott Shaw did confirm that the department is investigating the murder as an incident of road rage.

The suspect's vehicle, described as either a dark colored Toyota Corolla or Camry, was reportedly seen fleeing westbound on 2nd Street. Officials closed off the area between Nation's Plaza and the I-580 ramp in the hours proceeding the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.

City Police Identify Officer Who Shot And Wounded Armed Man After Traffic Stop

RadioOnFire.com - Baltimore City police have identified the officer who shot and wounded an armed man after a West Baltimore traffic stop on November 22.

The officer, 24-year-old Jeffrey Melo, shot the man, 29-year-old Richard Allen Gibbs, in the shoulder.

Investigators say Melo stopped Gibbs for "an obliterated licence plate." Gibbs was holding a handgun when he stepped out of the car. After a brief struggle, the officer fired once, hitting the man.

Police say Melo, who has been a member of the department since 2015, has not been involved in any prior officer involved shootings.

Man Killed, Woman Injured In Catonsville Stabbing

RadioOnFire.com - A woman was stabbed and a man was found dead Wednesday morning in Catonsville, Baltimore County police said.

The incident was reported at 9:25 a.m. in the 500 block of Academy Road, police said.

Police said the woman was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. There was no obvious signs of cause of death for the man, police said.

Police would not be specific, but stressed that there is no additional threat to the public.

Toronto Police: Third Suspect In Glen Burnie Man's Killing Surrenders

RadioOnFire.com - The third man wanted in Canada for the death of a University of Baltimore student has surrendered, Toronto police said.

Andrew Christopher O'Brien, 28, was wanted for second-degree murder in the killing of Julian Jones on Nov. 5.

Police had charged Kenneth Omorogbe, 25, and Kamari Folkes, 24, both of Toronto, with second-degree murder on Nov. 10.

Police said surveillance video and cellphone video taken by one of Jones' friends, along with help from witnesses, allowed investigators to identify and arrest Omorogbe and Folkes.

Jones, 26, of Glen Burnie, was in Toronto for a bachelor party for a friend when a group of people attacked and killed him outside a Toronto bar.

Jones, an Arundel High School graduate, died while being taken to the hospital, police said.

Senators, Baltimore Congressional Delegation Ask For Update On Consent Decree

RadioOnFire.com - Baltimore's congressional delegation, Maryland's two senators and its senator-elect wrote a letter to the mayor's office and Attorney General Loretta Lynch asking for an update on negotiations for Baltimore's police consent decree.

“We appreciate that it is no small task to ensure the decree fully addresses the DOJ recommendations and includes workable implementation steps.  However, we are hearing growing concern from the community about the status of and delay in drafting the decree," the members of Congress wrote. "We share those concerns.  It is absolutely imperative that decisive, steady, urgent progress toward crafting a meaningful consent decree be made a top priority by all involved.”

A draft consent decree was due Nov. 1.

The letter was signed on to by Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin, Senator-elect Chris Van Hollen and Reps. Elijah E. Cummings, Dutch Ruppersberger and John Sarbanes, whose districts all include some part of the city. It was sent to Lynch, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Mayor-elect Catherine Pugh.

All are Democrats and the timing of the letter indicates concern over what President-Elect Donald Trump's Department of Justice might do with the consent decree. Trump has tapped Sen. Jeff Sessions, an Alabama Republican, to be his attorney general.

The Obama administration Justice Department has opened 23 investigations of law enforcement agencies, also including police departments in Chicago and Ferguson, Missouri, for unconstitutional practices and has reached court-enforceable consent decrees with many of them.

As a supporter of Trump, who campaigned on law and order, Sessions is likely to pursue fewer civil rights investigations of troubled police departments. 

"We appreciate the significant time and energy required to prepare for the transition of a mayoral administration, but it is absolutely necessary that the consent decree be a top priority for all of us," the members wrote. "The safety of our community is at stake."

School Bus Driver Charged In Deadly Chattanooga Crash

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- The driver of a school bus that was filled with elementary students when it crashed in Chattanooga, killing at least five children, has been arrested and faces charges including vehicular homicide.

Calling the Monday afternoon crash "every public safety professional's worst nightmare," Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher told an overnight news conference that 24-year-old bus driver Johnthony Walker was charged with five counts of vehicular homicide. Walker was also charged with reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

Investigators were looking at speed "very, very strongly" as a factor in the crash, Fletcher said earlier.

Police said overnight that five children were killed in the crash. Earlier in the day, Hamilton County District Attorney Neal Pinkston told news outlets the crash killed six. The Associated Press was not immediately able to reach officials early Tuesday to clarify the discrepancy.

City Schools Terminate Contract With Bus Company After Crash

RadioOnFire.com - The Baltimore City School System announced Monday that it has terminated its school bus contract with AA Affordable Transportation, the 11 News I-Team has learned.

One of the company's buses driven by Glenn Chappell collided with an MTA bus on Nov 1, killing five people on the MTA bus, the MTA bus driver and Chappell. The crash left 11 others injured.

The NTSB and Baltimore police are jointly investigating. The NTSB told 11 News on Monday that they expect their preliminary findings to be released within the next couple weeks.

Whether Chappell had a up-to-date medical exam certificate on file is in question. The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration has said Chappell's medical exam certificate expired on Aug. 31 and he was not authorized to operate a commercial motor vehicle. An attorney representing AA Affordable Transportation disputed that information, saying that Chappell’s medical certificate was valid as of June and on file at AA Affordable Transportation.

The school system has redistributed the routes AA Affordable Transportation covered.

San Antonio Police Officer Fatally Shot While Writing Ticket

RadioOnFire.com - A San Antonio police officer writing out a traffic ticket to a motorist was shot to death in his squad car Sunday outside police headquarters by another driver who pulled up from behind, authorities said.

San Antonio police Chief William McManus identified the officer as Det. Benjamin Marconi, 50, a 20-year veteran of the force.

McManus said the suspect had not been apprehended Sunday night. He said he doesn't believe the man has any relationship to the original motorist who was pulled over, and no motive has been identified.

"We consider this suspect to be extremely dangerous and a clear threat to law enforcement officers and the public," McManus said.

McManus said the officer had pulled over a vehicle and while he was inside his squad car writing a ticket, a car pulled up behind him. He says the driver of that car got out, walked up to the officer's driver-side window and shot the officer twice in the head, then walked back to his car and drove away, McManus said.

Marconi was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Two Fisherman Found Dead In Potomac River

RadioOnFire.com - The bodies of two fisherman have been found in the Potomac River, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

A total of four fisherman were missing after their boat sank yesterday in a St. Mary's County fishing tournament.

Maryland Department of Natural Resources crews received a mayday call on Saturday evening in the Bowie area of the Potomac River. One fisherman was rescued from the sinking boat. 

Rescuers said that all the fisherman were wearing lifejackets but high wind gusts hampered rescue efforts. 

One fisherman is still missing.

Trump Settles Trump University Lawsuit for $25 Million

RadioOnFire.com - Donald Trump folded on his vow not to settle the class-action lawsuits he faced for defrauding students of his defunct Trump University, on Friday, November, 18. While Attorney General Eric Schneiderman wasn't able to land the more than 6,000 people who joined the claim the $40 million he had set out for, the billionaire President-Elect did agree to pay more than half that amount.

"The victims of Trump University have waited years for today's result and I am pleased that their patience - and persistence - will be rewarded by this $25 million settlement," Schneiderman said of the settlement.

Those who had enrolled in the so-called university had been in limbo since 2010 when it suddenly shut it's doors without ever making good on the promises it advertised. Students are reported to have paid $35,000 to learn the ins and outs of the real estate business from "hand-picked" instructors. Complaints from students who claimed that all they came away with was a picture beside a cardboard cut out of the business tycoon led to three fraud suits from New York to California. Schneiderman characterized Trump University as a "scheme" that made "false promises to prey on desperate people."

Although the Trump University lawsuits have dragged on since 2013, the case became a full-blown scandal over the course of Trump's campaign for the Presidency. Whenever the suits were brought up by challengers he dismissed them as unfounded. "I will win the Trump University case. I already am, as far as I'm concerned," he said in June. "I could settle that case. I could have settled that case. I just choose not to." Schneiderman says that aside from profiting off of the flaky university, he personally pocketed up to $5 million of the enrollment fees.

Police: Man Beat Puppies To Death In South Baltimore Home

RadioOnFire.com - Police say a Baltimore man beat four puppies to death in a south Baltimore home. He remains at large.

Officers were called around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 to a home in the 3700 block of 10th Street. Police say witnesses there told police they saw 21-year-old Donald Yearwood abuse the four puppies in the home. Police didn't find either Yearwood or the dogs in the home. The dogs taken remain at a shelter.

Later that evening, officers were called to the 1200 block of Cambria Street after a group of children found the four puppies inside a dumpster. Animal Control officers then arrived. Three puppies were pronounced dead at the scene, and a fourth was taken to an animal medical center, where he later died.

Detectives later learned officers had been called to the same home on 10th Street on Oct. 22, after an adult female pit bull bit a child, causing minor injuries. Officers at that time took that dog and six week-old puppies. Animal Control officers didn't know about the other four puppies in the home. Police say Yearwood had tried to feed and care for the four puppies over the following two weeks. Witnesses said that on the evening of the alleged abuse, Yearwood was trying to sleep and, disturbed by noise from the puppies, he began to kick and stomp on the puppies before throwing them down a flight of stairs. Police say several young children saw the attack.

Yearwood then put the puppies in a box and lefe. Police later found surveillance footage showing what appeared to be Yearwood placing the puppies in a dumpster. A warrant is out for Yearwood's arrest on 17 counts of animal cruelty, animal abuse and related charges. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.

Michael Flynn as his National Security Adviser, according to senior Trump transition officials, rewarding one of his campaign’s most prominent allies with a major role as he seeks to fulfill his promise to better protect the country.

In the role, Flynn will consult with Trump on protecting the country’s citizens, key infrastructure and resources and sit on the National Security Council with Trump, Vice President-elect Mike Pence, the incoming secretaries of state, defense and energy, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and other key officials.

Responsible for the country’s military and foreign policy efforts, Flynn will play a sizable role in shaping the Trump administration's policies, including how to deliver on the campaign promise to “defeat ISIS and radical Islam.”

That's according to a Trump transition official.

Trump is beginning to fill out his governing team, and the transition official says Trump will make the Pompeo announcement on Friday morning, along with his nomination of Alabama Sen. Woman Attacked By Bear In Frederick County

RadioOnFire.com - A bear attacked a woman in Frederick County Wednesday night.

Natural resources police identified the woman as Karen Osborne. She is 63-years-old and suffered a broken arm, cuts to her head and puncture wounds to both arms.

Natural Resources Police say it happened in the driveway of a home along Shookstown Road which is just west of Frederick City. The house is surrounded by a lot of trees and woods.

A spokeswoman for Natural Resources Police tells the Frederick News Post that the woman didn't realize she got between a mamma bear and her cub. The cub was found in a tree near the attack.

This morning, the break was tracked down and has been euthanized, per Natural Resources. 

State officials say it is very very rare for a black bear to attack a human.

Baltimore Teacher Fired For Racially Charged Comments

RadioOnFire.com - A Baltimore school teacher has been fired after making racially charged comments at students.

The district said, "A middle school science teacher at Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School engaged in verbally abusive behavior and made racially charged comments directed at students."

Video posted on social media showed a teacher yelling at students, using the n-word, telling a student to leave her class.

The district sent a statement, saying, "At Baltimore City Public Schools, we are committed to creating positive and equitable learning environments in school communities where all members are welcome, supported, and valued. No form of discriminatory behavior of any kind is or will be tolerated."

Trump's Name is Removed from a Building at Residents' Request

RadioOnFire.com - Three Manhattan high-rises were given a slight makeover on Wednesday, November 16, when a construction crew stripped the buildings of their "Trump Place" moniker.

Each edifice of the 140, 160, and 180 Riverside Boulevard condominium complex has assumed it's plain address in favor of the president-elect's name, as the result of a residents' petition drive. "We are assuming a more neutral building identity that will appeal to all current and future residents," Marty McKenna, of manager/owner Equity Residential, told the press about the decision. Video of workers carving the golden letters off of the mid-town building's facade has gone viral on the internet, lending a moral victory to protesters of the 45 President's election.

Over 600 people reportedly signed the Change.org petition. The drive was initiated by residents Linda Gottlieb, Robert Tessler and Brian Dumont, who have put out a statement that reads, "Our home is our most personal private space, a building we should feel proud of and happy to walk into every day... so... THE TIME HAS COME TO DUMP TRUMP."
