9-Day-Old Baby Murdered, Parents Charged

Baltimore police have arrested the parents of a 9-day-old boy in connection with his death.

Matthew Kirsch, 37, and Anne Kirsch, 35, are charged with murder, child abuse, neglect and assault-related charges, police said Friday.

Police said officers were called on Oct. 20 to a house in the 4200 block of Groveland Avenue on a report of an unresponsive child. The infant was taken to Sinai Hospital, where he died.

The infant's parents told investigators that they found the child unresponsive. Police said an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be homicide by blunt-force trauma and neglect.

"It's really even tough to find words to describe what this 9-day-old child had to endure during his very short life," Baltimore police Detective Jeremy Silbert said.

According to charging documents, the baby was born in an auto repair shop, where both parents worked, the birth was never reported and no doctors were involved.

The birth of the infant, also named Matthew Kirsch, was announced on Facebook on Oct. 11. His father wrote: "My first child born at 7 this morning, and it's a boy."

Police said investigators believe that the infant was neglected and abused in the nine days that followed. Police said they found signs of dehydration and malnutrition.

A report from the Medical Examiner's Office says the "child was a road map of abuse and neglect," and that his stomach was empty except for gastric fluid.

Investigators said they believe the couple tried to give the impression that they were feeding the child by placing bottles of formula out before they called 911.

The medical examiner also reported an injury to the back of the boy's head consistent with being slammed on a flat surface.

Charging documents say the couple "caused such egregious conditions that they managed to deplete the life of the child, causing his death in only nine days."

Neighbors in the 4200 block of Groveland Avenue said the house where the couple lived has been vacant for about a year and they believe the couple was living there without the owner's permission.

"They came out with what appeared to be a small baby and put it in the ambulance, and then I left for work, and when I got back home about 5 o'clock, I saw the house taped off," a neighbor told 11 News.

The charging documents say the couple have been married for 13 years and share a heroin addiction. The charging documents say Anne Kirsch admitted she used heroin during the pregnancy. Investigators said the child may have been born addicted to the drug.

Both parents are being held at Central Booking.

Non-Fatal Shooting At Candlelight Vigil

Officers were called to the 5400 block of Moores Run Drive for a report of a shooting Thursday eveningat approximately 8:00pm. 

When officers arrived they found a 26-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the shots were fired as a candlelight vigil was taking place for a homicide victim.

The victim has not been identified.

Baltimore Police Announce Pilot Body Camera Program

Baltimore City police have announced the launch of their pilot body camera program.

Officials said 155 officers and detectives in the Central, Eastern and Western districts, Special Enforcement Unit members and Special Operations Sections in the Eastern and Western districts are among those wearing the devices starting Monday.

During a news conference Monday, officials said officers who volunteered to participate in the 54-day pilot program or those selected by their commanders to wear one of the three body cameras will help determine which vendor city police will eventually use.

Ten bids were initially submitted to the city, and after evaluation, the following three vendor teams were selected:

- Taser International Inc., offering the Axon Body Camera and Amazon Web Services

- Atlantic Tactical Inc., offering the Vievu LE4 Camera and Microsoft Azure storage service

- Brekford Corp. partnering with Panasonic using the Arbitrator Camera and Microsoft Azure storage service

Officials said those outfitted with the devices will help decide who the contract will be awarded to based on several factors, including reliability and ease of use.

The plan is to implement the selected vendor's camera beginning in February 2016 and continuing over the next two years for members of the Baltimore Police Department with direct contact to the public, officials said.

The video and audio will be downloaded, the information will be reviewed and depending on circumstances of the case police will then determine how the information will be used, officials said.

Officials said in some instances, such as those involving sexual assault victims or cases, officers will be able to censor or turn the camera off.

Ravens vs Cardinals Preview

The Baltimore Ravens face the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football. 

The Arizona Cardinals need a win to solidify their grip on first place in the NFC West.

The Baltimore Ravens need a win — period.

The Cardinals (4-2) play their only home game over a six-week span when they face the Ravens (1-5) on Monday night.

Baltimore will play on the road for the fifth time in its first seven games.

"I'd rather have ours than Baltimore's," Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said of the schedules. "They've been back and forth three times to the West Coast."

The Ravens played at Oakland on Sept. 20 (and lost 37-33) and, last week, at San Francisco (and lost 25-20).

Every Arizona win has been a blowout. The Cardinals have lost the two that were close, most recently a 25-13 defeat in Pittsburgh last Sunday.

For the Ravens, they've all been close. They have not lost a game by more than six points. Their only win was in overtime, 23-20 at Pittsburgh on Oct. 1.

"When you watch them on film, this is a good football team," Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer said. "You can't look at their record and think anything. ... They just lost a weird one to Cleveland at home. They lost a weird one in Oakland. They were coming back last week in San Francisco. With Cincinnati, it was back and forth, back and forth, I think it ended up being a four-point game."

Arians harped all week on the Cardinals' tendency to play great most of the time, then have a five-minute lull.

Several defensive players admitted they let up a bit when the Steelers brought in third-string quarterback Landry Jones, who promptly threw two touchdown passes.

Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith wasn't about to comment about the Cardinals' issues.

"What they've goin' on, I'd love to have their problems," he said. "We're 1-5. You know what I mean?"

Baltimore City Marks 275th Homicide

Police say a man has been fatally shot in South Baltimore. 

Police say officers were called to the 100 block of South Schroeder Street for a report of a shooting just after noon on Sunday. 

When the officers arrived they discovered a 36-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Police say the victim was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim's death marks the city's 275th homicide of the year. 

Police say the incident is under investigation.

Victims in mid-20s injured in separate Baltimore shootings

Two men in their mid-20s were shot -- one in the back and the other in the head -- in two separate shootings in Baltimore, police said.

Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. Friday to a hospital on reports of a walk-in shooting victim. Police said one of the victims, who was not immediately identified, was shot in the back. 

The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was shot in the 1900 block of North Rosedale Street.

There is no suspect information at this time.

Another shooting, involving another man in his mid-20s, was reported about 10 minutes later.

Police said the 26-year-old man was shot in the head. He is suffering from life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting.

Officers located the victim in the 1800 block of Aisquith Street.

The victim was taken to a hospital.

19 Year Old Man Federally Indicted in April Riots

A 19-year-old Baltimore man was indicted Thursday on federal charges stemming from the April riots. 

Donta Betts was indicted with attempted arson of a police cruiser, obstructing law enforcement officers during a civil disorder and unlawful making of a destructive device, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

"These violent acts endangered the safety of dozens of officers and citizens in the area that day," ATF Baltimore Special Agent in Charge William P. McMullan said. "ATF is committed to making sure that the perpetrators of these acts are held responsible and we will continue to investigate anyone who threatens the well-being of our community." 

Betts, who remains in police custody, pleaded not guilty in federal court Friday. He remains in police custody. 

He could face a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison for attempted arson, a maximum of five years in prison for obstruction, and a maximum of 10 years in prison for the unlawful making of a destructive device.

Gov. Hogan Announces New Transit Plan For Baltimore City

Governor Larry Hogan has announced a $135 million plan to redesign Baltimore's local and express bus systems.

The Republican governor said Thursday the comprehensive plan will add 12 new high-frequency and color-coded routes to improve connections to jobs and other types of public transit.

Parts of the plan will be implemented soon, with the entire redesign expected by June of 2017. 

Hogan was joined at the announcement by Baltimore City Council President Jack Young and Senate Majority Leader Catherine Pugh, who represents West Baltimore.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was noticeably absent. She says Hogan's plan "falls far short" of what the light rail plan known as the Red Line would have accomplished.

The Hogan Administration is also looking to offer express bus service to Fort Meade, Arundel Mills and the Amazon Fulfillment Center.

In June, the Hogan administration said it would not move forward with a proposed light rail project in the city known as the Red Line. Hogan says that $2.9 billion plan "was a train to nowhere that was not going to accomplish anything."

The Red Line would have connected Canton with Woodlawn, did receive nearly $1-billion in federal money.

A number of Democrats had criticized Governor Hogan for abandoning the project.

Today, Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamnetz called the new Hogan plan "window dressing."

Officer Accused Of Biting Man's Testicle No Longer On Force

A Baltimore man is no longer an Anne Arundel County police officer after he was charged for public intoxication and accused of biting another man's testicles during a fight outside a bar while he was off-duty on Cinco de Mayo.

County police spokesman Lt. Ryan Frashure tells The Capital of Annapolis 31-year-old Cpl. Michael Flaig is no longer employed by the department as of Sept. 23, but he wouldn't elaborate on why he left.

Flaig was involved in a fight in May after the victim accused Flaig of groping his female roommate.

After the incident, police told local news outlets that during the fight, the victim straddled Flaig to keep him from getting away and Flaig bit his testicles.

Flaig is serving one year of probation after being convicted of public intoxication and endangering the safety of another person. Officials decided not to prosecute Flaig on a second-degree assault charge.

Flaig's attorney, Peter O'Neill, says Flaig's behavior may have been a side effect of job-related stress.

Ravens Lose To 49ers 25 – 20, Ravens Fall To 1 – 5 This Season

Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin took it to the team they helped win the Super Bowl nearly three years ago. Shareece Wright's embarrassing outing sure helped out his former San Francisco 49ers on a day Baltimore missed chances in every phase.

Colin Kaepernick completed a 76-yard touchdown pass to Smith, Joe Flacco threw two interceptions and the Niners beat Baltimore 25-20 on Sunday to snap a four-game losing streak.

Phil Dawson kicked four field goals, including a 53-yarder, in the first win since Week 1 for San Francisco (2-4). Boldin - a Super Bowl star for the Ravens against San Francisco - had a late 51-yard catch that set up Quinton Patton's 21-yard reception for the first touchdown of his career.

Dave Berdan wins the 2015 Baltimore Marathon

David Berdan is once again the winner of the Baltimore Marathon. Berdan crossed the finish line in 2:30:22, which was more than three minutes faster than the winning time in the 2014 marathon, which was won by Brian Rosenberg, of Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Jeremy Bennie, of Charlottesville, Va. finished in second place with a time of 2:35:16 while Rosenberg placed third in 2:37:28.

The race marked a comeback for Berdan, 34, of Owings Mills, who suffered a setback last year when he had to drop out at Mile 13. The Stevenson University cross country coach, who won the 2013 marathon, entered the race last year knowing he had a stress fracture in his left hip, but decided to give it a try last year.

One Dead In Head On Crash On Hanover St. Bridge

Baltimore City Police say one person died in a head-on collision between a SUV and a van on the Hanover Street Bridge.

The crash occurred at around 9:10 on Friday night.

Police say the driver of the SUV was traveling in the opposite lane, and crashed head-on into a van carrying 11 people.

Police say the driver of the SUV was killed.

He is identified as a 50-year-old male.  

Police say the driver and passengers in the van are expected to make a full recovery.

Some Protesters Returning To Baltimore City Hall After Several Were Arrested Earlier This Morning

A hand full of protesters are returning to Baltimore City Hall for what they are calling a Freedom Rally.

Earlier this morning, Police officers converged on Baltimore's City Hall where several protesters were arrested after an occupation of the building to protest moves to make permanent the appointment of the city's interim police commissioner.

At least 25 officers lined up outside City Hall and more police stood out back as protesters were led iff, several with hands behind their backs. Protest sympathizers outside chanted: "It is our duty to fight for our freedom, we have nothing to lose but our shame!"

Activists opposed to the permanent appointment of Baltimore's interim police commissioner occupied City Hall on Wednesday night and told police they wouldn't leave until the commissioner and mayor agreed to a list of their demands, including changes to police tactics and significant investment in education and social services.

Members of the Baltimore Bloc had begun shouting from the upper gallery of a conference room as a city council subcommittee prepared to vote for Kevin Davis as permanent commissioner. The full council will vote on the appointment Monday.

"All night, all day, we will fight for Freddie Gray!" the activists chanted amid calls to postpone the vote. "No justice, no peace."

Council Committee Votes To Confirm Kevin Davis As Baltimore Police Commissioner

A Baltimore City Council committee voted Wednesday night to confirm Kevin Davis as police commissioner, despite protests that briefly delayed the hearing.

Demonstrators are upset about the way police treat protesters.

Davis carries some baggage in his quest to become commissioner.

Civil court records indicate back in 1994 Mark Kendell Spann, a White House intern at the time, complained that Davis, then a Prince George's County police officer, cuffed, threw him to the ground and smashed his face against the sidewalk without explanation.

It happened in front of Spann's parents' house. Reached by phone, Spann believes the incident was racially motivated.

"As he put me in the front seat, that's when the racial debauchery began. He was absolutely out of control," Spann said. "I distinctly remember and I quote, 'Oh I bet your car door costs more than my salary.' My parents had given me a 1967 230 SL Mercedes as a gift for graduate school. Officer Davis was consumed by that car and more that I was driving that car."

The jury award against Davis was $12,500. In 1999, court records indicate Brian Romjue, a teenager at the time, accused Davis and three other Prince George's police narcotics officers of kidnapping.

He claims the officers took him to a remote location and roughed him up seeking information about Romjue's girlfriend. She was the niece of a Prince George's County police commander who had left home and spent time with Romjue's older brother.

The jury award against Davis was $90,000 for violating Romjue's constitutional rights. However the jury rejected the claim that the officers used excessive force during the incident.

Published reports quote Davis saying that he was given the assignment by a superior officer and had no reason to doubt that it was legitimate.

Protesters Issue Demands Ahead Of Gray Trials

Protesters come out with a list of demands for police ahead of the trials of the six officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray.

The 19 demands are outlined in a letter several protest groups have sent Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Interim Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis.

Trey Murphy of the Baltimore Algebra Project, which is among the groups that signed the letter, noted that the groups are concerned about police response to demonstrations that occurred last month, during the pre-trial hearings for the officers.

"It is clear that since Kevin Davis took office as interim Police Commissioner there has been a heightened aggression from Law Enforcement towards protesters," the letter states.

The groups are demanding the establishment of safe houses for protesters that police cannot enter without providing a warrants.

The protesters are also demanding greater access to public streets. 

The groups also want police officers to wear badges and name tags.

"They will also wear only the attire minimally required for their safety. Specialized riot gear will be avoided except as a last resort," the letter states.

"Crowd control equipment such as armored vehicles, rubber bullets, and rifles will not be used. Tear gas may only be used as a last resort to the protection of human life," the groups also demand.

Murphy says the groups are not threatening additional  rioting if the demands are not met.

"I don't think they should view this as a threat," Murphy told WBAL NewsRadio 1090.

"I think they should views this as people, grassroots people, who are out on the forefront of this thing, who have been doing this kind of work...are trying to come to a table of compromise," Murphy added.

He says the groups are trying to exercise their rights to protest peacefully, even if protests temporarily block traffic.

On September 2, as a pre-trial hearing was taking place Pastor Wesley West of the Faith Empowered Ministries, was arrested after he jumped in front of a pickup truck traveling down East Pratt Street, during a protest.

Murphy understands motorists and commuters may be upset with the protest, but he feels they may work to address the issues the protesters

"If you're trying to get to work and we are massively blocking any major highway, or major road that you travel on, you're going to want to figure out how do we insure that we don't block, your ability to get to work again," Murphy said.

The groups are also demanding police provide alternative routes for motorists who want to get around the demonstrations.  

Davis has said he has met with protest leaders over the last few weeks to talk about demonstrations that may take place during and after the six trials.

While not commenting on any specific demands, Baltimore City Police Spokesman T.J. Smith said, "we look forward to continued productive dialogue with the protest community. Our mutual concerns will serve to ensure a safe protest environment in the days ahead." 

Davis has previously said that the city will be prepare for any demonstrations and any unrest that may occur during  the trials.

The groups City Bloc, Baltimore Bloc, The West Coalition,  Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle and Youth As Resources also signed the letter.  

Murphy says there will be protests during the trials.  The first trial for Officer William Porter is scheduled to begin on November 30.

There has been added security around the Mitchell Courthouse East when motions hearings have taken place.

Randallstown Man Charged With Child Pornography And Sexually Abusing Children

A 37 year old Randallstown man has been charged with 13 offenses including possession of child pornography and sexual abuse of a minor.

Baltimore County Police were led to 37 year old Kenneth Majeed Smith on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about Internet activity related to child pornography.

The police investigation led detectives to a pornographic image of a very young child that had been uploaded from a home in the unit block of McChurch Court in Randallstown.

A search warrant was obtained and served on October 12. Among the items recovered were a computer laptop, computer tablet, and several thumb drives. A preliminary examination and police say thousands of images of child pornography were found.

Detectives have also learned that Smith allegedly had a sexual encounter with at least one child and may have had sexual encounters with other children. Smith is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Detectives are working to identify the children pictured.

Most Recent Murder Victim "Epitomizes 2015" Crime Spike

Baltimore City Police are investigating an overnight murder that was the only murder of the weekend.

The incident occurred at around 11:45 Sunday night in the 1600-block of Church Street were two people were shot.

Police say one of the victims, 25-year-old Tabitha Holtman, was shot in the back and died at the scene.

Police say another victim, a 17-year-old, suffered a graze wound as treated and released at the hospital.

Investigators say both victims were walking in the area when they heard several gunshots from behind them, and both began to run.

Witnesses stated that a black male was seen shooting at the victims.

Interim Police Commissioner Kevin Davis told C-4 this morning that Holtman "epitomizes 2015's murder victim."

He noted Holtman survived a shooting in 2012 and had an extensive record of drug and weapons convictions.

Davis says police and the community have to do a better job in getting violent criminals off the streets.  

He does say the public is being more cooperative in "high profile cases" such as the shooting last weekend of a 9-year-old girl in West Baltimore. 

Davis said there have been 262 homicides this year, 188, since the April riots.  

He says most of the victims were targeted and had past criminal records.

UPDATE: Standoff Suspect Charged With Rape

Baltimore City Police are charging a West Baltimore man with rape and several other offenses after investigators say he threatened and sexually assaulted his live in girlfriend.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon around 3:30.

Police say 55-year-old Lenny Epps refused to allow the 36-year-old victim to leave the home, but she eventually escaped by climbing onto the roof of the house and then jumping to the ground.

Epps then barricaded himself inside the home in the 2700-block of Baker Street, before he surrendered peacefully after more than six hours.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Epps is also charged with involuntary detention and several assault and weapons related charges.

He is  being held in Central Booking.

Baltimore Ravens Host The Browns Today

Despite a receiving corps decimated by injuries, the Baltimore Ravens remain confident given the success on the ground they've enjoyed against the Cleveland Browns throughout the years.

After Justin Forsett helped run the Ravens to their first victory, they could rely heavily on him again Sunday while trying to continue their dominance over the visiting Browns.

Baltimore (1-3) enjoyed a collective sigh of relief following last Thursday's 23-20 overtime win at Pittsburgh, but the severity of a back injury suffered by receiver Steve Smith has tempered the enjoyment. The 36-year-old Smith, who leads the team with 29 receptions and 373 yards, is considered week to week. The Ravens have already placed budding second-year receiver Michael Campanaro (back) on injured reserve and first-round pick Breshad Perriman (knee) has yet to play.

Tight end Crockett Gilmore (calf) also could miss a second straight game after recording 10 catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the first three contests.

"It's just part of the league; you've got to be able to adjust and deal with all that adversity," quarterback Joe Flacco told the Ravens' official website. "I think we're going to be alright."

Hopkins Officials Investigate Possible Sexual Assault

A safety alert has been issued as officials at Johns Hopkins University investigate the possible sexual assault of a student at an off-campus fraternity.

An undergraduate reported that he may have been given a date rape drug on Friday by an unidentified person or persons. The student also reported the possibility that he had been sexually assaulted.

Authorities said the incident was reported at the Sigma Phi Epsilon house at 2900 Wyman Parkway. The fraternity has been directed not to hold parties or other events at the location through the course of the investigation.

The university is investigating the report, but use of a date rape drug and the occurrence of a sexual assault have not been confirmed.

Man Freed From Trench Collapse

A man digging a trench for a waterline was trapped when the trench collapsed and buried him to chest level, officials said.

Howard County Fire and Rescue officials said the man was working on a property in the 6400 block of  Barchink Place in Columbia when the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m.

A special operations team was called in to shore up the trench to prevent a second collapse before freeing the victim almost an hour later.

As a precaution, BGE  shut down underground utilities.

The man was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and treatment.

Baltimore Police Comment On Viral Video That Shows Man Knocking Down A Police Trainee

Baltimore's interim police commissioner says a video that shows a man knocking down a police trainee during an arrest shows the officers' restraint.

A video published to the website World Star Hip Hop shows a physical altercation between a man and two Baltimore City police officers.

Kevin Davis said Friday that the interaction started when an officer and trainee approached a man screaming obscenities at people. The bystander video shows the officers tell the man to stop, but when they try to handcuff him, a scuffle begins. The man swings at both officers, landing a punch in the trainee's face that brings him down. He's later handcuffed.

The man has been identified as James Young. 

Davis says policing is in the midst of a sea change and this unusual confrontation is a chance to examine the current environment for officers. He says they can't just walk on when faced with such a situation.

Man Found Shot Multiple Times In East Baltimore In Broad Daylight

This morning at approximately 11:00am, City Police say officers were called to the intersection of Orleans Street and Aisquith Street for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived they found a 26-year-old man, inside of a car, shot multiple times. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of the victims injuries, both homicide detectives and eastern district detectives were called to the scene. At last check, the victim was being treated for his injuries at the hospital.

Howard County Teacher Arrested On Prostitution Charges

An English teacher at a Howard County high school has been arrested and charged with prostitution and sexual solicitation of a minor.

Montgomery County police say Richard Kemp was arrested Thursday in the county. Kemp is a teacher at Glenelg High School.

Principal Karl J. Schindler sent home a letter to parents saying a long-term substitute will teach Kemp's classes until further notice. Schindler said counselors are being brought in for students who need them.

Schindler also said that the school is supporting the police investigation. He asked parents to share any information that could help.

Police in Howard County said they're investigating whether there are any similar cases involving Kemp in their jurisdiction.

It is unclear whether Kemp has an attorney to comment on the charges.

Frederick Douglass High School: Car Strikes and Injures 3 Baltimore Students Near Campus, Police Say

Baltimore City police said the students, a 14-year-old girl, and boys, ages 15 and 16, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Two victims were taken to Sinai Hospital and a third was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident remained on the scene and was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

City officials released the following statement:

"This morning on their way to school, two ninth-grade and one tenth-grade student from Frederick Douglass High School were hit by a car that entered the median on Gwynns Falls Parkway. All three are being treated at area hospitals."

There is no word on the cause of the accident.

Baltimore Police Seek Five Suspects In Shooting Of 9-Year-Old Girl

Baltimore City Police are investigating  after a 9-year-old girl was shot Sunday afternoon in North Baltimore.

City police said the girl was shot around 1 p.m. in the 3500 block of Old York Road. She is in stable condition with a broken femur, police said.

Interim Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said investigators are looking for a single gunman. Police said the gunman had intended to shoot four young men, who fled.

The shooting occurred not far from where three-year-old McKenzie Elliott was shot and killed in August of last year.

That killing has not been solved.

Today's shooting occurred during what has been a violent weekend, where at least three homicides have been reported.

Popular Restaurant Owner Robbed, Suspect In Custody

Baltimore County Police are charging a Baltimore City man with the weekend armed robbery of the owner of a popular seafood restaurant.

At around noon Saturday, police responded to Pappas Seafood in the 1700-block of Taylor Avenue in Parkville, where officers say the owner of the restaurant 83-year-old Markos Pappas was taking a bag outside of his car.

Police say the suspect struck Pappas on the head with a back of a handgun.

Pappas fell to the ground, but was able to get up and run into the restaurant.

The suspect picked up the bag of money Pappas was carrying and drove away.

Pol lice later found the suspect driving west on Northern parkway, and followed the car until the suspect  crashed into a parked car at the intersection of Greenmount and Venable Avenues.

The suspect then ran away, but police found him a short distance away.  Officers recovered the suspect's gun and arrested him.

Twenty-five year-old Darrell Burns is charged with armed robbery, first degree assault, and several firearms offense.

Burns is being held without bail in the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Pappas was later taken to Sinai Hospital for treatment of his injuries.  

He was later released.
